Dear Parents,

Welcome to a new school year. I am excited to be a part of your child's educational journey, through fourth grade. As your child's guide through this journey, I have some expectations.

Participation in group activities and completing class assignments are essential to being successful in school. Students will be learning many valuable tools to become successful. Thus it is important that your child attend school regularly and be here on time. If your child feels ill or is unable to attend, please notify the school. Arrangements can be made for you to pick up your child’s missed assignments.

Homework is an important part of your child’s learning. It will be the student’s responsibility to complete all assignments carefully, accurately, and to turn them in on-time. It is a fourth grade expectation for your child to write down the daily homework in their “Planner”. Students not turning in their homework on the day it is due, will be sent to the “Opportunity Room” during their recess. All incomplete and missing assignments will receive an incomplete or zero for a grade. Students who are absent, will have a week to turn in their homework.
All late homework turned in will delete the zeros. In the 2
nd quarter, no late homework will be accepted. All homework must be completed carefully and neatly. Ripped or dirtied assignment papers will be handed back. The student will be expected to redo the assignment. Students have the option of redoing unsatisfactory work, to improve their grade.

Students will be offered opportunities to retake tests with unsatisfactory grades. The student must get a parent signature and review the material again. The lower grade will be dropped and the higher one will be counted.

Student’s grades at the end of the quarter will be based on homework, classroom assignments, tests, the student’s mastery of a skill or concept, and their participation in class. Student's grades will be posted on “Power School” website. You will also receive a weekly progress report each week.

Please review the information about our school’s discipline policy in the Student Planner. In order to insure your child a safe learning climate they deserve, I am expecting my fourth graders to be able to follow classroom rules and the school procedures. Please expect a variety of consequences from me or other school staff, if your child does not follow these procedures or rules.

I look forward to meeting you on “Open House” night, on September 7, 2010, at 6 PM.

Sincerely,
Mr. Lee
